In December 2004, our Sapphire Water Dragons Abreast was formed by Jenny Kimber and Alice Wood, both breast cancer survivors.
We are a core group of breast cancer survivors whose aim is to increase the public awareness of breast cancer by humanizing the statistics.
By being part of the team we help each other regain a sense of wellness, self-confidence and control in our lives.
Our group not only has a number of survivors, it also has a number of supporters.

When did Dragons Abreast Australia start? In 1998, Michelle Hanton, a young mum from Darwin was recovering from chemotherapy following her diagnosis of breast cancer.
She attended the first national breast cancer conference for consumers in Canberra in October of that year – Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Michelle was inspired by Canadian presenter, Sharon Blatt’s slide of Chemo Savvy – a dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors in Canada.
There are now more than 40 Dragons Abreast Australia member teams.
Dragon Boating promotes teamwork and at the same time helps overcome the isolation that a diagnosis of breast cancer can often bring.
Being involved in a dragon boat creates a new state of awareness. It is exhilarating and lots of fun. Above all, the dragon boat programme connects one heart to another.
Join us at Sapphire Water Dragons Abreast and feel empowered, healthy and vibrant. Meet women and men intent on living life to the full and make new friends.
We welcome all new comers - in all shapes, sizes and ages.
